If it were like this: Today is your last day on this earth, you are given the technology to use one nuke on any one target on the planet--all Moslems are in Mecca...would you blow Mecca up ending the Islamic problem once and for all or would you just walk away hoping that they will change for the better--that what didnt happen in 14 centuries will happen sometime soon--what will you do?

I am really pleased to see this sort of "poll" being taken, because I think it is a serious indicator that people are seriously beginning to weary of the Muslims' temper tantrums.
Now, lemme see...Hmmm...Mecca destroyed? Sounds like a plan! But I do think a few well-placed daisy cutters would do the trick.
It's good that you bring this into the open, that being one of the true advantages of freedom of expression. We can ask one question and in return receive a multitude of answers, mostly none of which we'd have thought up on our own. The majority, with the rights of the minority in consideration, decide what the acceptable answer will be for the majority. The oppostion might not like it, but in a fair discussion, having argued valid points on all sides, having come to an agreement that we will abide by the majority rule, and that we won't trample the minorty in a dictatorship of the majority, we carry on.
My answer to the question above? I would not nuke Mecca.
Muslim people make up the body that carries the idea of Islam. To say that Muslims are not the problem but that it is Islam is to write foolishness. Muslims, humans like ourselves, are the problem.
I don't think it's a problem of this radical aor that militant Muslim, that immoderate or the other who's a terrorist. The problem is the whole of Muslims as a carier of Islam. Niking a large part of them at once might be effective in shocking them into realizing that Islam has no legitmate power to give meaning to their lives, and they might go on to find something else, something to fill the vacuum left in their belief system gone empty. They might convert instantly to Buddhism and become pacifists. But I don't think, in the long term, that is a worthwhile solution.
In practical terms, indealing with the world of people who live and eat and sleep, I think our best solution is to gradually turn the tide of Western public opinion to further Modernity, to the abandonment of appeasement of savages and the adulation of primitivism and self-hatered in the West. We have the personal strength to overcome the actual people of Islam on a man to man basis in combat. If we, as a society of free people, choose to settle on a group such as the Iraqis, for example, and beat them into submission to our will, literally hit them with clubs and break their arms and legs and smash in their heads till the survivers are terrified, then we have not only won the pacification of the nation but we will have proven our strength as men, and they will flock to us to convert to being us. They will see themselves not as beaten losers but as winners, see themselves as us. They wil be Americans in their minds, no longer Muslims, no longer Iraqis, but as Americans. They wil look to us as models of behaviour and thought. They will follow us like dogs. In time they will be as American as those from Florida or Alaska.
If we colonise the world, give them the chance to assimilate into Modernity with us, few will die in combat, and the many will live in Modernity as us, not significantly different from us, no different from us than Floridians are from Alaskans.
This, in my opinion, is the need: to colonise, to capture lands and people, to break them, to rule over them till we are one. In time their children will be our children, and we will love them no differently than we love our children today across the land here and now.
In the struggle to conquer we might well kill even more people than we would in a nuclear bomb attack on Mecca at the haj. But a clear campaign to assimilate rather than to kill is more likely to have a good result in the end.
Is this practical? I feel that it is. It's been done before, and in fact is the nature of human nature. Muslims are doing exactly tht to us, and we can turn the tide against them and rule them instead if we have the will.
We can begin our campaign of colonising the Muslims by starting with our own neighbourhoods. We can organise our neighbours to rid ourselves of mosques and Islmaic centres in our cities. We can crush oppostion from Muslims in our cities by boycott and intimidation. We can make Islam so unhappy that no one here will wish to be associated with it hhere. We can begin that by meeting our neighbours to organise a boycott of the local store run by the men who clsoe their shop five times a day. We can leaflet so no one dares enter a falaffal shop. We can drive out any good geeling toward Islam, and then we can continue to push till our hsotility has a life of its own that moves the Modern world to flood over the Islamic world. We can actually do that, unlike actually nuking anyone, by sitting at McD. and meeting like-minded neighbours who will talk about boycotting the local store owner till he is out of business and out of town. We can do that by organising against da'wa in our schools, and so on. It's boring and practical and time-consuming, and it works.
We'll meet agian this evening at McDonald's in Vancouver to talk more among ourselves. We urge you to do the same. Sit with your firends, those you do not yet know, and organise at the community level, gforgetting the nukes, focussing on the store down the street instead.
If yu will sit at McD. with a blue scarf to announce yourself willing to wage war against Islma in person rather than relying on the forces of government, then please post you whereabouts to all so they can meet you. Take the chance that you might encounter hostile Muslims. They are no tougher than anyone else, and in fact are mostly cowards.
Take a stand and do what you really can do: Meet yur friends.

Truthfully I don't want to see weapons of mass destruction used against anybody but nor do I think that this is a problem that is just going to go away. I think I'll stand on the fence a little longer before I commit to nuclear weapons. I do believe we need to take strong military action in Iran so that they never have the option of using nuclear weapons. Good question to be asking PI
Nukes won't solve the problem. I'd like to say that dialogue between civilizations works, but history proves that Muslims are not open to any serious or truthful dialogue with the West.
Military options are not taboo. The combined forces of the EU and the USA are enough to bring any third-world despot to heel, without resorting to a nuke. These Arabs don't fear the bomb because they know we won't use it. Unlike these barbarians, we don't believe in the wanton annihilation of innocent people, even if they do despise us.
We have to put a new fear into these terrorist black-hearts--a much more practical fear than that of a nuclear bomb. Fear is more powerful than any man-made weapon.
I would push the button in that hypothetical because it would be a good thing. Islam is incompatible with me and wants me dead. You can't change their text to something friendlier, over 50% of it is hate for the infidels. The Quran would be a pamphlet if you took all the nasty crap out.

That is, unless they deployed a nuke/dirty bomb against a civilized nation first. Then it would be bombs away, dream babies.

Good answers here but they do need to feel pain ..real pain...after 14 centuries of dishing it out to every one else. No more Haj..and they all can pray to a radioactive glassy hole.

Nuke them, is my answer to the question. I would like the next generations to live in peace and with Islam around it seems somewhat impossible.
