Nasrallah's Folly

Despite the propaganda, Nasrallah's decision to sneak across the border and kidnap the Israeli soldiers has become Nasrallah's Folly. It always happen to the Muslims. Years of appeasement gives them the 'big head' and they begin believe their own propaganda. Surely Israel won't engage an all out assault. They wouldn't dare! But they did. Now as Nasrallah watches his terrorist infrastructure be bombed into the stone age by Israel, he has yet, at least publically, to admit his mistake. Who does that sound like? Starts with a 'B' and ends with a sssshhhh.

Will the Lebanese continue to admire him as they look as what his actions have wrought and all that they have lost? We'll see.

If Israel keeps a de-populated buffer strip from the border area of southern Lebanon, Nassrallah’s folly will be too obvious to evade. The only way an Arab knows he has lost is when he loses land. I suggest that Israel formally annex the land but keep it depopulated. This will send a clear message: war with Israel means loss of land.

But if Israel pulls back within her border, Nassrallah will claim he drove them out and he will be a hero with even more power.

It is interesting that Allan Dershowitz proposed something similar several years ago. He said after every terrorist attack, Israel should permanently extend her border in the West Bank by moving people. There was quite an uproar at the time but it would have been effective.

War, as we know, traditionally changes boundaries. Germany gained part of France after the Franco-Prussian war and France got it back after WWI. Italy got part of Austria out of WWI. Germany lost a large slice of its eastern lands to Poland and Poland lost a large slice of its east most lands after WWII. This is the outcome of war. Israel should make it clear that losing a war to Israel has permanent consequences.

After all, withdrawal in 2000 is now seen as a failure.

I couldn't agree more.
