Israel's Contribution to Humanity

Late last month I wrote a post that details (according to a ChiComm thinktank) a listing for the world's top 500 universities. In that post, I touched very briefly on Israel's standings on that list:

Israel (pop. 7 million) in particular is a center of excellence, averaging one world-class university for every 875,000 people.

Well, Israel's excellence is not just confined to academics or higher learning. I recently found an article that precisely details Israel's profound achievements and ongoing contributions in all fields of the human enterprise, including (but not limited to) agriculture, computer software and design, cutting-edge medicial diagnostic technology, and more, much more.
Let’s take a Middle East quiz. Name a major medical breakthrough generated in a Middle Eastern nation other than Israel? Got to think about that one? Let’s narrow it down. Name a Middle Eastern nation that has produced extraordinary technological breakthroughs that power and operate millions of computers?

Despite its small size, Israelis working in Motorola’s largest research and development center came up with the basic elements of the modern cell phone. At Microsoft-Israel, Israelis developed most of the Windows NT and XP operating systems. And the Pentium MMX Chip technology was designed in Israel at the Intel operation there. In fact, both the Pentium-4 microprocessor and Centrino processor were entirely designed, developed, and produced in Israel.

Both Microsoft and Cisco built their only research and development facilities outside of the United States in Israel. Wouldn’t it be a shame if a Hezbollah or Iranian missile destroyed them?

It should come as no surprise that Israel has the highest percentage of home computers per capita or that Israel has the highest ratio of university degrees to the population of any nation in the world. Israel, in fact, produces more scientific papers per capita than any other nation, about 109 per 10,000 people, and has one of the highest per capital rates of patents filed.

Apart from the Silicon Valley in the U.S.A., Israel has the highest concentration of hi-tech companies in the world with more than 3,000, not including the highest rate of start-up companies, so there are probably more as this is being written.

These are the same people that Hezbollah and Hamas have promised to kill, but let’s be fair to the Arabs, they have led the world in suicide bombers and the development of Improvised Explosive Devices. They excel at fighting wars without putting on uniforms and hiding among civilians.

By comparison with any other Middle Eastern nation, Israel has the highest average living standards with a per capita income in 2000 that exceeded the United Kingdom. Compared with the rest of the world, it has the third highest rate of entrepreneurs and the highest rate among women and people over 55.

This is the nation that Iran’s president wants to “wipe off the map.”

Israeli scientists developed the first fully computerized, non-radiation, diagnostic instrumentation for breast cancer. An Israeli company developed a computerized system to ensure the proper administration of medications, removing human error from medical treatment in hospitals that use the system.

It has done all this while fighting the wars perpetrated against it by its Arab “neighbors” since the day it declared its independence in 1948. It has done this while being under constant attack for years from Lebanon that flared yet again into another full-scale war and while enduring the Intifada by the PLO followed by continued rocketing by Hamas from what is now called the Palestine territory.

Ironically, the Middle East that has been growing date palms for centuries has never been able to come up with a tree that yields more than about 38 pounds a year. They usually grow 18 to 20 feet tall. In Israel, however, comparable date palms yield about 400 pounds annually and are short enough to be harvested from the ground or from a small ladder.

When the Israelis withdrew from the Gaza strip (in 2005), they left behind greenhouses that had employed hundreds of Palestinians and produced an abundance of foods. The greenhouses were destroyed within days. Meanwhile Hamas and the Palestine Liberation Organization are at each other’s throats.

After 18 years of occupation, the Israelis withdrew from southern Lebanon in 2000. Hezbollah used the following six years to build bunkers and stockpile weapons. The rocketing of Israel never stopped.

Last question. If you had to move to any nation in the Middle East, which one would you choose?

We are told we are involved in a clash of civilizations between the developed West and the tyranny, poverty, and backwardness of the Middle Eastern version of Islam. To grasp what that means, review the facts stated above and then project a future for this nation and others if the Islamic Revolution succeeds in conquering Europe and the United Kingdom?

Think about life in America if it succeeds. Then, maybe, you will understand why America has always striven to support Israel.

Pedestrian Infidel isn't just a bunch of Americans--we're a global team consisting of many races and nationalities. And Pedestrian Infidel is proud to stand solidly with Israel. We know Israel isn't perfect, but we will always firmly support Israel's right to exist, Israel's right to self-defense, and Israel's right to live as a free and democratic nation.

I saw the same list, AJ! Just as an aside, out of the world's top 500 universities, my alma mater was number 53 (not bad for one of the newer kids on the block) and the one I have a close association with right now is number 17...

Just HAD to brag, just a tiny bit. I know, I know, Harvard, Standford, UC-Berkley, MIT, CalTech, Columbia, Princeton, U. Chicago, Yale, Cornell etc. are a little ahead of my schools, but if you have to be trailing someone, those are the ones to trail...

Now for the more serious stuff. Your point about Israel's contribution to humanity can't be emphasized enough, especially when it's contrasted with her mortal enemy - Islam.

I'm going to paste here a bit from a comment I made at another site (the Jews I speak of here are from all over the world, as are the Muslims):

"Lemme see; hmmm...well, I'm no candidate for the Fields Prize, so I'll let you do the math; the Jews alone have won 115 Nobel Prizes, even though there are only about 14,000,000 [0.02% of the world's population] in the world. The Muslims have won 7 Nobel Prizes, yet there are 1,200,000,000 [20.0% of the world's population] in the world."

Of course, if you throw in the gentiles and others who have also won Nobel Prizes, the disparity between Islam and the Infidel grows even greater.

The basic question was, why can't the Muslims do better than that? And the answer is, they are intellectually paralyzed by their philosophy.

In matters of the intellect, Muslims are a miserable failure. It isn't because their genes are so different from everybody else's, it's because their philosophy (a.k.a. Islam) has sucked their minds dry from infancy on. In this respect, it is the best in human history. No other philosophy has been so successful at institutionalizing failure among its followers.

The process begins at birth, when it is the tradition in many Islamic countries for the father to recite the shahada in the newborn's ear. It's all downhill from there.

Philosophy has five major branches - ethics, epistemology, metaphysics, politics, and esthetics.

In a nutshell, here is the difference between Islamic philosophy and ours:

Our epistemology = reason; Islamic epistemology = "revelation." Our ethics (our "standard of the good") = human life; Islamic ethics (their "standard of the good") = the spread of Islam by any means whatever. Our metaphysics = the universe, all existence, follows natural law; Islamic metaphysics = every event at every moment is controlled by Allah's whim (the expression "if Allah wills" that you hear so often among Muslims is not a mere social convention or sign of respect for Allah - it is the craven fear of someone who thinks he has no control over his own destiny.). Our politics (politics is the application of ethics to social behavior) = recognition of individual rights; Islamic politics = totalitarianism.

The last branch, esthetics, needs a little explanation. Art (all forms) is the selective recreation of reality according to the artist's metaphysical values. The values are communicated non-verbally, of course, but very effectively. Just look at the recently returned (from thieves) "The Scream" by Edvard Munch; we've all had days like that! Or the sculptures of ancient Greece, where the human being was often portrayed as beautiful and competent, even triumphant.

Art is heavily censored in totalitarian societies, for fear that the artist's values will conflict with the governing power's values. In the Soviet Union, for example, only the glory of the collective, the group, the state, was permitted to be portrayed. It could be portrayed in many ways, but the subject matter was limited pretty much to glorification of the state. There were many artists who were jailed for art that deviated from that restrictive policy.

In Islam, the censorship is even more severe, and reflects the way they value - or rather, "disvalue," life, particularly human life. Except for plants, life forms are forbidden in Islamic art. Yes, there are some places here and there where "life" has sneaked in under the tent flap and is seen, but wherever the "purest" kind of Islam is practiced, it is never seen.

Islam makes the excuse that "Only Allah can create life, and that achievement cannot be attempted by mere human artists." The real reason is that Islam does not value life, especially human life, and it is terrified that some artist, somewhere, might try to smuggle in, via his art, some value forbidden in Islam.

In the West, the artist is free to project into his work anything he values, whether anyone thinks it makes sense or not. But "life" is highly valued by most artists, and it is a very popular subject of artistic work,in profound contrast with Islamic art.

That Muslims have a fine sense of what is beautiful is seen despite the crushing limitations placed on them. If they had the fundamental freedom to think, which would require them to have the shackles of their philosophy removed from their minds, they could achieve well in every branch of human endeavor.

No one ever said they were stupid. It's just that their minds have been destroyed under the continuous, unremitting assault of a viciously anti-human philosophy.

Hey moron.

The Muslims developed the Arabic numerical system (the number system that everyone today uses), algebra, and many many other things.

Just in the past few centuries have the Muslims declined.

Also, throughout history, the Muslims have saved you Jews. If it were not for them, many more of you people whould have died.

(I'm not Arabic or Muslim)
