What bloggers on the other side are saying

In case you haven't noticed by now, PI is a counterjihad website. But have you ever wondered what bloggers on the other side are saying?

Wonder no longer:

"I have a weapon. It's to write. It's to speak out. That's my jihad. You can do many things with words. Writing is also a bomb."

The author of those words? A woman who lives in Belgium. Read about her here.

Putting Profit above Principle

It has been announced that Tony Blair wants to ’devote his life to faith’. By ‘faith’ I suppose we are to understand ‘interfaith dialogue’, so as to try and ensure that we all live together in harmony.

This is a noble ambition indeed; unfortunately, however, there is one stumbling block: The nature of Islam!

For ‘interfaith dialogue’ to be meaningful, there has to be a readiness by all parties, in this case especially Jews, Christians, and Muslims, to compromise, for without compromise, interfaith dialogue becomes a meaningless exercise.

In Islam we find an implacable faith, an unyielding belief system founded on totally different principles than both Judaism and Christianity.

Christianity is based on love: The love of God, the love for God, the love of humanity. Islam, by contrast, is not a religion based on love; rather, it is based on total submission to Allah, and where there is no total submission to Him, we find the sword used to rein in the people. Indeed, Muhammad himself announced the sword to be an instrument of faith. Who, then, are we to argue with Muhammad’s declaration? How can we put a positive spin on that?

It is interesting to note that there is a maxim used by Muslims which states the following: ‘To convince stubborn unbelievers, there is no argument like the sword.’ [Source: Washington Irving: Mohammed]

For this reason, if for no other, it is difficult to see what Tony Blair hopes to achieve with his devotion to interfaith dialogue. How does he hope to change the nature of the faith of Islam? It is impossible to change nature. Indeed, can we change the nature of anything? And if this is so, then what hope have we of changing the nature of Islam, especially after more than fourteen hundred years?

The only man who could have changed its nature was the Prophet Muhammad himself. But as he is no longer around to make any changes, it is not going to be possible for mere mortals to change anything in that religion. You see, Islam is not a religion like Christianity anyway. Christianity has evolved, and has undergone a reformation. This reformation was made possible partly because Christianity, being based on the Bible, especially the New Testament, is to all but fundamentalist Christians considered to be a book that is inspired by God. The words contained therein are not generally considered to be God’s actual words.

In this respect, Islam is very different. Islam, as we all know, is based on the Qur’an, and that book is not considered be inspired by Allah; rather, Muslims consider the book to comprise the actual words of Allah as dictated to Muhammad by the Angel Gabriel in the form of a recitation. In fact, the very meaning of ‘Al Qur’an’ is ‘The Recitation’.

The result of this difference between the holy books has led to two quite different civilizations and cultures. Muslims are very defensive of Islamic culture and civilization in a way that Westerners are not defensive of theirs.

Take our leaders. They are reluctant to face up to the fact that we have a huge problem on our hands with Islam in general, and with the rapid growth of Islam in the West in particular. In this reluctance, they are doing us no favours. On the contrary, they are remiss in their duties as guardians of our way of life, as guardians of our Judeo-Christian civilization.

What, for example, are our leaders doing to protect our values and our way of life? Interfaithing will offer no protection; actually, on the contrary, it will probably lead to compromise – the compromise of Westerners. To me it seems like a cop out. It is a smokescreen to enable the top echelons to put profit above principle.

The jihad which is being waged against the West threatens us all. It is not something we can afford to ignore; yet people are ignoring it, largely in the hope that it will go away. It won’t. If anything, it will get worse.

The jihad has many guises. One of the latest is the economic jihad being waged against capitalism. Only this morning, it was reported that there have been calls for Ireland to introduce Shari’ah-compliant finance as a matter of urgency. As a matter of urgency, no less! Why? So that Muslims living and working in Ireland can live their lives according to their faith, without feeling conflicted by the terms and conditions of living in the ‘evil’ capitalist system.

One can but ask oneself one question here: If living under capitalism is so onerous for these Muslims, then why did they come here to live in the first place?

The leaders of finance houses who are working so hard to introduce Shari’ah-compliant financial services and products seem to be oblivious to the fact that Islamic economics is competing in every respect with capitalism. Isn’t it true to say that the interest rate is the keystone of a capitalist economy? Take that keystone away and the whole system will start to fall apart.

In Islam, riba is frowned upon. But let’s get one thing straight: Riba is generally translated as usury, not as the interest rate per se. There is a world of difference between usury, which is the charging of extortionate rates of interest for loans, and the general interest rate which is not to be equated with such extortion. Yet nobody seems to be making any difference between them. The financiers appear to have been hoodwinked into believing that the interest rate is itself frowned upon in Islamic economics. It must be said that one’s definitions in this matter depend on the Islamic scholars one reads: Some scholars frown upon the interest rate altogether, calling it all usury, whilst others take a more liberal approach and make a distinction between a reasonable rate of interest and an extortionate rate.

Whichever is the case, the fact remains that Islamic economics is not compatible with the long-term interests of a capitalist economy. One can but worry about the tentacles of Islam tightening their grip on Western economies. Lest we forget, the old adage, He who pays the piper calls the tune comes to mind. We need not wait to learn that this is indeed true. We can discern the verity of the adage already when we look around us. Take the power of the petrodollar as a case in point. Its power is profound, and it can be felt around the globe.

It is one reason why our leaders and business people are reluctant to speak out. They are overcome by greed and fear: They are greedy to earn back the petrodollars, and they are fearful that if they speak out they will incur the wrath of the Muslims living in the West, and cut off our oil supplies into the bargain.

You see, they do not have the stomach for any form of confrontation. The sad reality is, however, that the West will not survive this onslaught without a confrontation of some kind or other. It’s just not possible. Muslims are too determined to replace our Judeo-Christian civilization with an Islamic one, too determined to replace capitalism with an Islamic economic system.

But by confrontation, I do not necessarily think that we need to go to war (though that cannot, of course, be ruled out in the long-run). But we do need to protect our own values and our own way of life. Alas, this is not happening. Our leaders are giving in at every turn. Appeasement of Muslims both at home and abroad is the norm of the day. It will do nothing for the West except accelarate the demise of our civilization, and accelerate the demise of capitalism, too.

Can’t the people in power see what they are doing? Are bankers and financiers so greedy that they are willing to bring down the West for their own short-term gain? Do they not realize that they are playing with fire? Do they really believe that capitalism and Islamic economics can co-exist? Can they really be that ignorant?

Personally, I think they are not; rather, I think these people are out to get all they can before the house of cards is brought down. Remember the fall of communism? Capitalism will fall equally easily if we do not pay more attention. It’s hard to believe, I know. But the introduction of Shari’ah-compliant finance and other Shari’ah-compliant products is just the start. It is the introduction of Shari’ah law by the back the door. Today it’s banking; tomorrow it will be Shari’ah enshrined in the laws of the land, enshrined in the constitutions of Western countries. How foolish our leaders, bankers and financiers are!

Before 9/11, it would have been hard to imagine that the West could have been so weak and unwilling to fight for a way of life we have come to expect and love. But it all started going wrong after those attacks, because we were too reluctant to state the case against Islam, clearly and unequivocally. The politicians have busied themselves making excuses for Islam and have deceived the public in so doing; the business people and bankers have busied themselves making money from the countries awash with petrodollars. And in so doing they have chosen to turn a blind eye to the financing, by Saudi Arabia, of the propagation of Wahhabi Islam in the West.

So what exactly is Tony Blair going to achieve with his lifetime spent interfaithing? Is he merely going to sell the West farther down the river? And in any case, what are his qualifications for doing this job? What does he know about Islam? And where has he learnt that which he does know?

One thing is for certain: People like Tony Blair are not going to learn the true nature of Islam by sitting in five star hotels in Bethlehem, talking to fabulously rich Muslims from oil-rich countries. To learn about the true nature of Islam one has to mix and talk with people at the grassroots level. The rich are generally Western-educated, indulge in alcohol, spend enormous amounts of money in casinos, live in the lap of luxury, and generally do not adhere strictly to their faith. They are also generally well-travelled; so they are not representative of the ordinary man in the Arab street. Ergo, little can be learnt from them when it comes to the faith of Islam.

Isn’t it high time that we all started taking stock? Isn’t it high time that we woke up to the reality which confronts us? Isn’t it high time that we started to put principle before profit?

Economic Jihad Spreads to Ireland; Shari’ah-Compliant Financial Services ‘Should’ Be Made Available to Muslims There as a Matter of Urgency

At this rate, capitalism will be dead in a short time. It took the West years to defeat communism. Western capitalism eventually won the day as it was seen to be superior. Indeed it was and still is superior. Islamic economics is now winning the day, though. And there has been no need of a Cold War, and no need for guns (or swords). All it has taken is intimidation of Westerners by an assertive Muslim population, a sense of subservience to the Gulf Arabs, especially the Saudis, ignorance of the true nature of Islam and its goals, a refusal to admit to the dangers of that faith, appeasement, meekness, and timidity on the part of Westerners who are afraid of confronting the ideology, a loss of belief in our own destiny, and a dogged determination on the part of our leaders and captains of industry NOT to call Islam what it actually is: A political system wrapped up in a deity.

THE IRISH TIMES: THERE IS an “urgent need” for sharia-compliant financial services to be made available in Ireland so that Muslims living here do not contravene religious teachings, representatives from Irish financial institutions were told at a seminar on Islamic banking yesterday.

The seminar was held at the Islamic Cultural Centre of Ireland (ICCI), which is based at Ireland’s largest Sunni mosque in Clonskeagh, Dublin.

“We organised this conference because there is an urgent need for the Muslim community here to have mortgages and other financial services that do not drive them to break their Islamic teachings,” said Ali Selim, a theologian and secretary to Imam Hussein Halawa of the ICCI.

During yesterday’s seminar Imam Halawa outlined the religious tenets of Islam that forbid the payment or receipt of interest, known as riba.

Representatives from the Arab Banking Corporation’s London subsidiary and the Islamic Bank of Britain gave presentations on how the market for Islamic finance has developed in the UK in recent years.

Several high street banks in Britain now offer a variety of sharia-compliant services, including mortgages.

One of the most common types is based on the Islamic principles of “diminishing musharaka” or diminishing ownership. Under this scheme, the customer and bank jointly acquire a property, with the customer’s share usually similar to the normal deposit, but the property is bought in the bank’s name only.

The customer makes monthly payments made up of rent and contributions towards the purchase price over an agreed period of time.

The amount of rent decreases as the customer’s share in the property increases. Ownership is transferred when the customer eventually buys out the bank.

Similar partnerships are available so Muslim business people in the UK can avoid interest repayments.

Mr Selim told the seminar that as Ireland’s Muslim population increased there would be more demand for such services here. Call for Sharia-Compliant Finance Services to Be Available in Ireland >>> By Mary Fitzgerald | May 30, 2008

Thou shalt not leave

A splendid turn of phrase for our Malaysian readers, from the savants at Gates of Vienna (GoV):

...the portal to Islam is a one-way valve: people may pass through the door into Islam, but no one is allowed to return through it, on pain of death.

It’s certainly true that once Muslims become a majority in a country, they use any and all methods at their disposal — lethal violence, threats, intimidation, legal sanctions, economic incentives, punitive taxation, clan warfare, social pressure — to persuade unbelievers to convert to Islam and stay there.

If this pithy and spot-on writing does not describe the situation in Malaysia for its entire national existence, I don't know what does.

United Kingdom: Islam Channel to Introduce Interfaith Game Show

THE TELEGRAPH: An interfaith game show which sees different religious groups competing against each other for cash prizes is to be launched in Britain, it was reported on Tuesday.

Faith Off has been commissioned by the digital TV station the Islam Channel in a bid to foster good relations and better understanding between different faiths.

The show is expected to feature all of the flashing lights, buzzers, puns and cheesy smiles common to ordinary game shows.

But instead of questions about celebrities and soaps, contestants will be expected to demonstrate their religious knowledge.

Two teams of four people will compete in each episode of the eight-part series, which will be hosted by Muslim comedian Jeff Mirza.

As well as being challenged to identify key figures such as the Dalai Lama and the Pope from grainy images, there will be multiple choice questions where contestants answer questions about their own, or another contestant’s religion.

Those taking part will be picked in part from respondents to online advertisements on Muslim websites, and in part via the Islam Channel’s networks.

The show’s producer, Abrar Hussain, has also produced a competition to find Britain’s best mosque.

"We’re living in a multifaith, multicultural society," he told the Guardian newspaper.

"You learn about religions at school and then you forget, so it's about transferring the basic blocks of knowledge. it’s also about learning the similarities between religions, instead of focusing on the differences." Malaysian cybercops investigating 22 sites

The Malaysian Government Cybersquad, organized to fight whatever their government doesn't like in cyberspace, is swinging into action:

KUALA LUMPUR: Twenty-two websites and blogs have been investigated by the Malaysian Communication and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) for airing false, pornographic and baseless allegations.

Well, PI's got two out three on that score. No points for figuring out which two those might be. I wonder, is PI lucky enough to be on Malaysia's latest government 'hit list'?

Deputy Energy, Water and Communications Minister Datuk Joseph Salang Gandum told Senator Sharifah Azizah Syed Zain in Dewan Rakyat on Monday that out of those blogs investigated, the commission had also forwarded three investigation papers to the Attorney-General’s Chambers.

“Most of the blogs and websites are being operated using platforms from overseas and efforts to obtain evidence necessary for action often come to a dead end.

“Therefore, it’s very hard to take legal action against these blogs,”he said.

Awww, such a shame. The Malaysian junior fascists have my profound condolences. What, your lordship, you can't get the chowderheads at Google or Blogger to cooperate with your petty investigations? Tisk tisk, I'm sure it's a real big disappointment for you.

Joseph said the MCMC also did not license blogging activities, making it hard for both the ministry and the commission to have a comprehensive list of those behind these websites and blogs.

To another question, Joseph said the Government did not intend to set up a special body to counter “irresponsible blogging” as there were adequate laws such as the Sedition Act and Penal Code in place.

Irresponsible blogging. What a lovely piece of insipid, PC-inspired prose. That, my friends, is what PI is all about.

Congrats, Mr. Joseph. You win the PI "Idiotarian of the Week" award.

Iran's Persecution of Bahai's

Iran's ongoing persecution and oppression of its Bahai community is getting at least some attention in the Western media:

NEW YORK (CNN) -- A top Baha'i official has criticized Iran's claim that the six imprisoned leaders of the religious minority were held for security reasons and not because of their faith.

Bani Dugal, the principal representative of the Baha'i International Community to the United Nations, called Iran's assertion "utterly baseless."

"The allegations are not new, and the Iranian government knows well that they are untrue," Dugal said on Wednesday, quoted in a news release issued by the Baha'i movement.

"The documented plan of the Iranian government has always been to destroy the Baha'i community, and these latest arrests represent an intensification of this plan."

Iran's detestable Islamic government did not invent the idea of terrorizing and marginalizing the kuffar. This idea harks back to the very beginnings of Islam and the teachings of Islam's founder. The Mullahs are only continuing a centuries-long track record of Muslim oppression and eventual annihilation of non Muslims in Muslim societies. Remember the many victims of Islam, of which is a tiny sampling:
  • Afghanistan used to be a Buddhist state
  • Zoroastrianism used to be the state religion of Persia
  • Christian and Jewish communities used to thrive in most of the Arab Peninsula and the Middle East
  • Constantinople was a formerly the center of eastern Christianity.
No more. The followers of Mohammed saw to that. And their work continues to this day.

Prince Charles Admits He Is A Blinding Idiot; Predicts World Disaster in 18 Months

Well, he got one thing right. The last time we visited with Prince Charles, he was jetting around the Muslim world, dressing in Muslim garb, and trying to persuade the English that England should elevate Islam as an equal religion to Christianity. In fact, a lot of people suspect Prince Charles is already a Muslim. After all, as a man who is an asshole, Islam is right down his alley. Now Prince Charles has a carbon footprint the size of a 1000 peasants with all his jetting and palaces and horse stables and chauffeur driven limousines, but hey, it's time for the peasants to give and give to save the world from global warming. Scientist, soothsayer, visionary, blinding idiot. These are only some of his accomplishments.

Prince Charles: Eighteen months to stop climate change disaster
By Andrew Pierce
Last Updated: 11:01PM BST 15/05/2008

The Prince of Wales has warned that the world faces a series of natural disasters within 18 months unless urgent action is taken to save the rainforests.
In one of his most out-spoken interventions in the climate change debate, he said a £15 billion annual programme was required to halt deforestation or the world would have to live with the dire consequences.

"We will end up seeing more drought and starvation on a grand scale. Weather patterns will become even more terrifying and there will be less and less rainfall," he said.

"We are asking for something pretty dreadful unless we really understand the issues now and [the] urgency of them." The Prince said the rainforests, which provide the "air conditioning system for the entire planet", releasing water vapour and absorbing carbon, were being lost to poor farmers desperate to make a living.

He said that every year, 20 million hectares of forest – equivalent to the area of England, Wales and Scotland – were destroyed and called for a "gigantic partnership" of governments, businesses and consumers to slow it down.

"What we have got to do is try to ensure that these forests are more valuable alive than dead. At the moment, there is more value in them being dead," he said.

He estimated that the cost would be about £15 billion a year but said that this should be viewed as an insurance policy for the whole world. "That is roughly just under one per cent of all the insurance premiums paid in the world in any one year. It is an insurance premium to ensure the world has some rainfall and reasonable weather patterns. It is a good deal."

Last month, the Prince had a meeting at St James's Palace with four state governors from Brazil [did they come in rowboats] or jets?} to discuss the best way to allocate the money. One option would be for an organisation such as the World Bank to administer the fund. The Prince made clear yesterday that if nothing was done there was a "severe danger of losing a major part of the battle against climate change".

In an interview on Radio 4's Today programme, the Prince disclosed that he had raised his concerns with the White House, Vladimir Putin, the Russian prime minister, and President Sarkozy, of France. He said he had pressed Barclays, Shell, Goldman Sachs and McDonald's to join his campaign.

But he also said consumers had to play their part by choosing products that were environmentally sustainable and called for improvements in labelling.

He denied, however, that he was interfering in the political process. "All I am ever trying to do is to provide an enabling facility," he said.

He conceded that at times he had been forced to keep his counsel when he would have liked to have spoken out. "You learn as you go along. I am going to be 60 this year. I would be a blinding idiot if I had not learnt a bit by now."

•The number of birds, animals, marine and freshwater creatures in the world has dropped by almost one third, according to the WWF conservation organisation. It found that between 1970 and 2005 land-based species fell by 25 per cent, marine species by 28 per cent and freshwater species by 29 per cent.

Will Eurabia Destroy Its Historical Art That Insults Islam?

Poor little Lady of Dendermonde. Her pulpit sculpture of angels stomping on Moe's head is under attack. It has been there for over 300 years with no concerns. It was created shortly after the epic battle at the Gates of Vienna in 1683 to celebrate Christianity's triumph over the Muslim barbarians. But now, the police have to protect it from the Muslims who want to destroy it. You can read the whole ridiculous chain of events at The Brussels Journal.

According to the Belgian press the pulpit controversy has been deliberately caused by this website, which is being described as “pretending to be neo-conservative” but run by “neo-fascists.” Piet Buyse, the mayor of Dendermonde, told the media that he deplores that the pulpit “figures on websites which aim to provoke negative reactions from Muslims.” The mayor said that the depicted man represents an unbeliever and may also be Luther or Calvin.

Aimé Stroobants, the custodian of Our Lady in Dendermonde, told the newspaper De Standaard that the figure on the pulpit “cannot possibly be Mohammed” because “He is wearing a Persian dress, while we know that the Prophet came from the Arab Peninsula. For all we know the depicted man might even be a Jew.”

And the parodies and photoshop has begun in earnest. (hattip:snappedshot )

But of course this brings up an even bigger issue. That is not the only historical sculpture or artwork in Eurabia that must be destroyed to appease their new masters.

You also have Dante's Moe in Hell and you also have Dali's Disemboweled Moe.

They all have gotta go. Muslims will be offended and the Muslims are Eurabia's new masters and won't tolerate any insults from the dhimmis. Apparently Eurabia's remaining dhimmi politicians agree as they blame 'fascists' on the web for bringing these pieces of art to the attention of their new masters. They are even saying it isn't Moe although it is clear to me that the person being stomped on is Moe and that is a Koran underneath him. Denial takes so much energy! If only the Eurodhimmis would channel that energy into defending their culture and their countries from Moe's barbarians. Maybe the dhimmis will find a 'compromise' and put it all in a warehouse so that no one can be offended. Would that be better than destroying it? What about the Koran? It insults Christians; shouldn't every copy of it be destroyed?

60th Anniversary Celebrations Won’t Save Israel from Annihilation, Says Ahmadinejad

Map of Israel courtesy of Google Images

YNET NEWS: Iranian president says anniversary celebrations won't save Jewish state from 'annihilation' by Middle Eastern nations

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said Wednesday that Israel is dying and that its 60th anniversary celebrations are an attempt to prevent its ''annihilation.''

His remarks coincided with the arrival of US President George W. Bush in the Middle East to celebrate Israel's 60th birthday and try to revitalize peace efforts.

''The Zionist (Israeli) regime is dying,'' said Ahmadinejad during a speech in the northern Iranian city of Gorgan. ''The criminals assume that by holding celebrations ... they can save the sinister Zionist regime from death and annihilation.''

The hardline Iranian president used an Arabic word, ismihlal, that can also be translated as destruction, death and collapse.

"They should know that regional nations hate this fake and criminal regime and if the smallest and briefest chance is given to regional nations they will destroy (it)," said Ahmadinejad, who often rails against Israel and the United States.

Iran doesn't recognize Israel, and Ahmadinejad has repeatedly called for Israel's destruction. The threatening exchanges between Iran and Israel have intensified since 2005, when Ahmadinejad said in a speech that Israel will one day be ''wiped off the map.'' The Iranian leader has also alleged that the Holocaust was a ''myth.'' Ahmadinejad: Israel Is ‘Dying’ >>> | May 14, 2008

Clueless Condi, Why Are The Muslims Blowing Up The Indians?

As this naive and incompetent administration rolls down the hill and out into the trashbin of history, I have a question for our brilliant leaders. Today the Muslims blew up India, killing 50 and mutiliating hundreds of others. Now why, Clueless Condi, would they do that? You have no clue? Do you know your history? Obviously not. While I certainly did not study India's historical events in high school or college, I have become knowledgeable about the pox on India's house that Islam was and continues to be. The Muslims despise the Hindus. They're polytheists and worship all kinds of idolatrous gods. They're worse than the Christians. They're worse than the Jews, and those people are monkeys and pigs, don't cha know.

It is very discouraging to see the energy this administration and the overwhelming majority of politicians expend on covering for Islam. Where does this persistence for denial come from? I went to college and don't recall such brainwashing, but I got a real degree in business and computer science. I knew there were the 'others' at college, the social science majors, the liberal arts, etc. You can only imagine how far they have come since the 70's.

Of course, today all the big ivy league schools are corrupt and dominated by anarchists and American hating whiners who will never be happy until America's identity is destroyed. Condi and Jorge Bush really must have sucked it all in. All I have to say to Clueless Condi and her clowndaddy Jorge Bush is "Don't let the screendoor hit you on the way out."

News Roundup-- 9 May 2008

All the news that's fit for infidels. Lots of stuff happening in the news this weekend:

Civil War on again in Lebanon--

The Syrian-Iranian terrorist proxy army known as Hezbollah is now waging open war against the rest of Lebanon. It's the 1970s and 80s Lebanese Civil War all over again--but this time, the trigger is not the PLO--this time, it's Iran. The goal of Hez, and hence their Iranian masters, is to expand the Iranian reich's beachhead on the Med and to turn the whole of Lebanon into a Jihadist state in Teheran's orbit. And Hez, armed to the teeth under the very noses of the spineless and powerless UN 'peacekeepers', is going to tear the country apart to take it over, or die trying. Not to mention the fact that that Hez/Iran's naked aggression is going to get a lot more innocent people killed.

Blogger and independent journalist extraordinaire Michael Totten has all the latest details, developments and analysis from Beirut.

Asia's perfect storm--

The Hermit Kingdom of Burma was walloped by a massive cyclone exactly one week ago, which hit the low-lying and heavily-populated Irrawaddy River Delta region. As is usual for megastorms like this one, the 4 meter high storm surge of Cyclone Nargis was the main killer. And the death toll, while not exactly clear at this point, looks to be downright Biblical in proportions. Like in the immediate aftermath of the last big disaster to strike this part of the world (the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake slash tsunami), no one is sure of the number of deaths, but most estimates being tossed around in the media range from 60000 to 100000. Likely ten times that many people are alive but homeless.

As in 2004, the international community is swinging into action to provide relief for the wretched survivors. Unlike 2004, however, the government of the disaster-struck nation is refusing practically all outside help. In particular, the biggest, fastest and most well-equipped disaster relief organization in the world--the US Military--has been repeatedly denied access to the disaster zone. As far as Burma's military junta is concerned, nothing is more important than keeping their grip on total power. Foreign relief workers coming into their storm-ravaged realm, in their paranoid view, threatens their power. So for the the suffering and starving people of Burma, there is no relief in sight. At least the cyclone is gone now, but the true enemy of the Burmese people--the thugs and tyrants who rule in their name-- stay on year after year, decade after decade.

It should be sadly clear to everyone by now what sort of place Burma is--a tropical North Korea.

Top Malaysian Blogger jailed, then freed on bail--

One of Malaysia's top bloggers, anti-government activist and acquaintance of mine, Raja Petra Kamarudin (better known by his initials RPK) was arrested and charged earlier in the week for 'sedition', following the posting of his article "Let's send the Altantuya murderers to hell" last month on his widely read political blog Malaysia Today. His excellent article suggests the likely possibility that Malaysia's deputy Prime Minister was somehow involved in the murder of a Mongolian woman who was apparently trying to blackmail his aide. Well in authoritarian Malaysia, to insinuate that a senior government minister might be guilty of, ahem, 'high crimes and misdemeanors' is, in the eyes of its police, seditious. Never mind whether the minister is actually guilty.

So while the government hems and haws and delays and delays the Altantuya murder trial (which I touched on in a post early this year) on the flimsiest of excuses, they swing right into action to jail a blogger who dares to write the truth, who dares to challenge the corrupt ministers who rule yet another Asian country.

RPK is now out on bail after first refusing to post it. After an overwhelming show of support from other activists, the Malaysian blogging community, and the general public, not to mention the pleading of his family, RPK posted bail and is now at home. His trial for sedition is scheduled for October, and it should be a media sensation. The government will pull out all the stops to railroad the thorn in their side that RPK has proven himself to be time and time again. But RPK is formidable. Can he be so easily silenced?

Malaysia's dictators are likely sleeping none too well tonight.

Slimy, Weak Politicians Pandering to Muslims

THE GUARDIAN: The government's attempts to placate Muslims will cause long-term damage to communities, a charity said yesterday.

The warning came from Yasmin Alibhai-Brown, chair and co-founder of the British Muslims for Secular Democracy, a new organisation claiming to represent the "silent majority who feel no conflict between their faith and democracy".

Speaking before the launch, attended by Baroness Kishwer Faulkner and former Islamist Ed Husain, the journalist said the government was pandering to Muslims by granting too many concessions, fuelling their separation from the rest of society.

"The government has found a way of placating Muslims in a way that will only damage us in the long term, Muslims wanting separate schools or different measures. There must be one law for all. Killing Americans is official Iranian policy

So says the head of the CIA in a recent question-and-answer session.

Here's the money quote:

CIA Director Michael Hayden said Wednesday that Iranian policy, at the highest government level, is to help kill Americans in Iraq, the boldest pronouncement of Iranian involvement by a U.S. official to date.

Hayden made the statement in response to a student question while delivering the Landon Lecture at Kansas State University.

"It is my opinion, it is the policy of the Iranian government, approved to highest level of that government, to facilitate the killing of Americans in Iraq," Hayden said. "Just make sure there's clarity on that."

This isn't the first time the Mullahs have gotten away with committing acts of war against the nation they steadfastly refer to as 'Great Satan'.

In 1979, Iranian "students" invaded the US Embassy, held diplomats hostage, tortured them, and threatened them with execution. This continued for 15 months without letup. Eventually, the US struck a deal with the mullahs--in essence paid a hefty ransom--so that the hostages could be released.

In 1983, Iranian terrorist proxies bombed the US Embassy and Marine barracks in Beirut, Lebanon, killing almost 300 Americans. The US response? Immediate and unilateral withdrawal from Lebanon (and this was when Reagan was commander-in-chief).

In 1996, a US military housing complex in Saudi Arabia called Khobar Towers was bombed, killing 19 Air Force personnel. The trail of evidence again pointed to Iran. But with the bombers under the likely protection of Iran, and safely away from the reach of justice, nothing else was done.

And since 2003, US troops have been killed directly by Iranian forces inside Iraq.

All together, this is at least four separate acts of war committed by Iran against the United States over the past 30 years, all resulting in the death of Americans, destruction of millions (if not billions) in property, and causing grievous harm to US interests in the region and beyond.

So, Director Hayden, what is the US going to do about Iranian policy? If past history is any guide, the likely US response will be to continue doing nothing. Doing nothing, actually, would constitute progress of a sort. Previous US responses to Iran's wanton acts of aggression and murder have rewarded Tehran quite handsomely.

No wonder the Iranians think God is on their side.
